The Cutting Edge program winner was announced and Michael Flynn, assistant administrator at the Village of Mundelein, accepted the plaque. Thanks to all who submitted entries. We look forward to additional entries for the 2012 Cutting Edge Program and to the 2012 Annual Banquet on November 15, 2012.

The Cutting Edge Program

One of the goals of the Lake County Municipal League is “to furnish an exchange or clearing house where a Member municipality may learn of the solution applied by other municipalities to the same or similar problems.” With this in mind, The Board of Directors has suggested implementing A Model Program, Policy and Procedure Award Program.

The Cutting Edge Program is open to all LCML municipal and county members. The primary goal of the Cutting Edge Program is to encourage creative thinking to develop programs, policies or procedures that may be shared with municipalities in the county.

To be considered for a Cutting Edge Award, a program, policy or procedure must be shown to successfully meet the needs or challenges of the community in a cost-effective way. There should also be tangible results or measurable outcomes from the implementation of the program, policy or procedure. Ultimately the program, policy or procedure must be shown to improve the quality of life for residents in the community.

How to enter:

Submit an application with
• Brief description of the challenge or need that prompted the action
• How the program, policy or procedure was implemented with costs
• The tangible results or measurable outcomes of the program, policy or procedure
• How the program impacts the quality of life for your residents (either directly or indirectly).

An application may be found at http://www.lakecountyleague.org/cuttingedge.pdf

A committee will review the entries and select a winner based on the above criteria. An award will be presented to the winning community at the LCML Annual Banquet on November 17.

By presenting municipalities with awards for outstanding programs policies or procedures, LCML recognizes members for their innovative work and provides member municipalities with a resource for best practices in the field.

Timeline:

October 21: Deadline to enter
October 24-31: Selection Committee reviews entries and chooses a winner.
November 1: Preparation of a booklet with all entries to be distributed to each Village.
November 17: Winner announced at dinner
